Lesson Two

Career in IT Free Course

Where to start and focus?

A degree in Computing Science will expose you to all facets of IT. After completing a degree, you would have identified your key strengths, passions, and areas of interest you would like to pursue in IT. If you would prefer not to go to university, working as an intern and completing IT certifications with a reputable IT company is also an option. You can always decide to study later following this experience.

It’s important to align your passions with your strengths in IT.

Degree or Certificates?

You can pursue specialised certifications, but this should be done hand-in-hand with work experience in order to master the necessary skills and to solidify your understanding. Generally, individuals who pursue certifications straight after leaving school will follow a career as a Desktop Support Technician, IT Manager or even business owner.

Computer Science graduates are in huge demand so if you are serious about a career in IT, I would recommend a degree first.
