Lesson Two
Being able to perform my passion as a career is second to none and often doesn’t feel like a job. Getting to travel is a real benefit for me as I get to meet new people in new places. Being your own boss and being responsible for your own day to day activities is a plus. Being successful also allows me to help those disadvantaged in life, A portion of the proceeds from our RoseFest are donated to Non-profit organisations and girls homes in South Africa.
Financial uncertainty is difficult to deal with due to the entertainment industry being unpredictable. There are many costs involved such as production, equipment, and personnel. People often are not able to understand the realities of a career in entertainment. I also find it difficult to separate myself from the business and brand.
There are always expectations for you to be perfect, with the general public not wanting to see your human side. You will be held to a higher standard which is unrealistic to keep up.
There are also expectations from organisations you work with, to simply turn on your creativity. Everyone has their own process and ideal conditions to perform at the highest level.
I sometimes struggle with the pressures I place on myself, often trying to think about everybody involved which can be quite demanding.
