Lesson One
Nala is the owner of Alan’s Boutique – An online thrifting fashion business in South Africa.
This thrifting store came about because of a personal interest I had in clothing and discovering unique items of fashion. This also allows me to share my tastes and fashion style with other people. Alan’s boutique has currently been operational for over a year now and was able to remain profitable throughout the recent lockdown restrictions.
As the owner of my business and online store, I am required to cover many roles such as creative director, marketing, bookkeeping, and sourcing amongst others.
Sourcing items can be tricky as you need to have multiple avenues and ideas for items you think are worth thrifting. Promoting the items to the right market is crucial in making a profit.
The fashion industry is very large, where you are in competition with not just other small business owners but with giants like Woolworths, Mr. Price, and others.
Each competitor will have its specific niche and relevant markets they target. In retrospect, I would say Alan’s boutique is still breaking into the industry and attempting to position itself within the market.
